The Indian athletes are displaying brilliant shows at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. In what was one of the finest hour on the international stage, Murali Sreeshankar scripted history by clinching a silver medal at the long jump event at CWG. The 23-year-old jumped 8.08 metres in his fifth attempt for a podium finished and grabbed silver. Notably, Sreeshankar became the first male Indian to win a silver medal in the men's long jump event in CWG. Before him, Suresh Babu powered a bronze medal in the 1978 Games. Again, among women, Prajusha Maliakkal won a silver in the 2010 edition in Delhi, while Anju Bobby George bagged a bronze in 2002. Coming back to the CWG 2022, both Sreeshankar and Laquan Nairn of Bahamas had the best jump of 8.08 metres. However, the latter won the gold as his second best of 7.98 metres was better as compared to India's Sreeshankar with 7.84 metres. India's medal tally has increased to 20 including 6 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze at the Birmingham Games 2022.
