Goa's annual fishing ban begins for 60 days
The Coutband Jetty in South Goa, which otherwise is bustling with life, now wears an almost peaceful, pensive look owing to the fishing ban that has been in force since June 1. The 1 km long jetty is now dotted with over 500 trawlers, which are in varying phases of maintenance, in preparation for the next fishing season that will resume on August 01, 2023. While most of the trawler crew have gone back to their hometowns – in Jharkhand, Orissa, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh for these two months, the net weavers have made their way to Goa to mend the fishing nets.
